Gardai investigating fatal stabbing of a young man in Tallaght arrested a man in his 20s

TALLAGHT: Gardai investigating the murder of a young man who was stabbed during a street row in Tallaght on Tuesday evening have arrested a man on suspicion.

A man in his 20s was arrested in Dundalk, Co Louth, yesterday afternoon and is being detained at Tallaght Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Meanwhile, gardai confirmed that the deceased 25-year-old man has been named locally as Ademola Giwa.

Giwa died of severe blood loss after being stabbed in the neck during a street fight on Mac Uilliam Road, near his house, at 7.15 pm yesterday.

Following the horrific incident, a large number of public order units from the city’s south side arrived on the scene. Detectives performed CPR on the victim at the scene, but he was rushed to Tallaght University Hospital when it became clear that his condition was critical. Gardai afterwards confirmed the young man had died.

Giwa’s post-mortem was performed yesterday afternoon.

Another man, aged in his 50s, was also injured and taken to TUH. His injuries are said to be not life-threatening and he is currently being treated.

Friends of the murdered man have started an online fundraising campaign to help cover his funeral costs. Many people have paid tribute to the young man on social media.

Gardai believe the suspect and victim knew each other and that the stabbing was linked to a previous incident in the locality. Gardai are investigating the incident by following a definite line of enquiry.

Gardai have appealed anyone who witnessed the incident or was in the area between 6.30pm and 7.15pm, including any passing taxis with dash cam footage, to contact Tallaght garda station on 01 666 6000, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111, or any garda station.
