Cork: Gardaí in Cork are grappling with the perplexing case of Yusuf Angelina (29), a man believed to be Syrian, who has been arrested on multiple charges, including theft. His true identity remains elusive, prompting the Gardaí to seek assistance from Interpol.
The investigation has been complicated by the discovery of multiple aliases. Over 27 fingerprints from individuals in the UK and Europe were checked, revealing matches with six people in France and 21 in the UK. This has only added to the confusion surrounding his identity. Angelina, who has not provided any documentation or disclosed his true identity in Ireland, has been remanded in custody for two weeks.
Yusuf Angelina, a name he has apparently adopted, reportedly arrived in Ringaskiddy, Cork, by ferry. He claims to have no family or relatives. He appeared in court via video link and will remain in custody until June 4th.
His arrest stems from a series of thefts, including a robbery at Marine Villas in Monkstown, Cork, on January 25, and another incident the following day at Shamrock Place in Ringaskiddy. He is also accused of stealing bicycles from the Ensign Bar in Monkstown on January 26 and from another location in Ringaskiddy. Additional charges include possession of cannabis and failing to provide a passport or any form of identification.
Gardaí have informed the court that the absence of documentation is significantly hampering their investigation.
