General Asim Munir, Pakistan’s new army chief, has warned that if attacked, he will not only defend every inch of the homeland but will also drive away the “enemy”!

Islamabad: Pakistan’s new army chief, General Asim Munir, said that if attacked, he would not only protect every inch of the motherland but also drive out the “enemy.”

He was speaking after visiting the soldiers in the Rakhchikri sector of the Line of Control (LoC). This was his first event after assuming charge.

The army chief accused India’s leadership of making reckless statements about Gilgit-Baltistan and Jammu and Kashmir. He stated that the Pakistan Armed Forces are always prepared to not only defend every inch of the motherland but also to retaliate strongly if war is declared.

General Munir was appointed on November 24 to succeed General Qamar Javed Bajwa, who retired after three years as Army Chief. The general discussed the latest situation along the Line of Control with the troops. The general appreciated the high morale and professional fighting spirit of the soldiers performing their duties despite the challenging conditions.

Lieutenant General Shahid Imtiaz of the Rawalpindi Corps, who had arrived at the LoC earlier, received the Army Chief.

The Kashmir issue and Pakistan’s cross-border terrorist activities have strained relations between India and Pakistan. On August 5, 2019, India revoked Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, dividing the state into two Union Territories.
