Rome: Brothers of Italy leader Giorgia Meloni will be sworn in as Italy’s prime minister at 10:00 am on Saturday. Meloni, who led a right-wing coalition to victory in the general election last month, will be Italy’s first female prime minister.
“The news of the swearing-in confirmation came hours after the President was asked to form the government immediately as there are many urgent issues to be resolved at the national and international level.”
According to party spokespeople, Meloni’s cabinet will include two deputy prime ministers from key allies: League leader Matteo Salvini, who will become infrastructure minister, and Forza Italia coordinator Antonio Tajani, who will become foreign minister.
Opposition parties have criticised Forza Italia leader Silvio Berlusconi’s recent pro-Russian comments for not giving Berlusconi’s right-hand man Antonio Tajani the foreign ministry.
However, Antonio Tajani has repeatedly stated that he and Berlusconi support the Western line in support of Kyiv.
The coalition talks for the formation of the government resulted in a fight in the camp, and the simmering discontent in the right-wing coalition erupted with the speaker election. La Russa was elected speaker without the support of Forza Italia, the right-wing coalition’s main parties.
But Meloni’s FDI, which won 26% of the vote in the election, was far behind the League and FI, so Meloni stood firm in the face of other parties’ bargaining. Meloni ignored Berlusconi’s demands that former Senate Speaker Elisabetta Casellati be appointed Minister of Justice. Meloni, on the other hand, appointed her as Minister of Reforms.
Meloni also resisted Salvini’s pressure to return to the former position as Interior Minister.
After Meloni accepts President Sergio Mattarella’s order to form a new government, other ministers will be sworn in.
Meloni’s cabinet will include twenty-four ministers, with six of them being women.
Many ministries will be renamed under the new centre-right administration.
- The economic development ministry will become the business and Made in Italy ministry.
- The ecological transition ministry will be called environment and energy security.
- The agricultural polices ministry changes to the ministry of agriculture and food sovereignty.

Department of Health: Orazio Schillaci, dean of Rome’s Tor Vergata University.
