Dublin: The Irish government has unveiled a comprehensive new strategy, Business Events 2030, aimed at establishing Ireland as a premier global destination for corporate events and business travel. The initiative outlines a clear roadmap to increase annual revenue from the sector by 8%, enhancing Ireland’s reputation in the international business tourism market.
The strategy brings together a coalition of key stakeholders, including the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Fáilte Ireland, Tourism Ireland, IDA Ireland, Enterprise Ireland, as well as representatives from the tourism and hospitality industry, Irish universities, and the Institute of Public Health.
Business travel is one of the most lucrative segments of Ireland’s tourism sector, contributing over €1 billion to the national economy annually. It also generates approximately €290 million in government revenue and supports around 22,000 jobs across the country.
Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Peter Burke highlighted the initiative as a significant opportunity to support small and medium-sized tourism enterprises while reinforcing Ireland’s position as a sustainable and eco-friendly business destination.
Paul Kelly, Chief Executive of Fáilte Ireland, emphasised that Business Events 2030 aligns with the broader goal of making Ireland a global leader in business events. He noted that the strategy would drive economic growth by promoting innovation and sustainability within the tourism sector, while also supporting Ireland’s development in scientific, industrial, medical, social, and educational fields.
Alice Mansergh, Chief Executive of Tourism Ireland, underscored the high-value nature of business event travel. She pointed out that such events often occur midweek and outside peak travel seasons, helping to stabilise and grow tourism throughout the year. Attracting international business visitors, she said, will yield long-term benefits for both the Irish economy and local communities.
