Government Reviews Over 90 Property Submissions for Asylum Seeker Accommodation

Dublin: The government is currently reviewing over 90 submissions for potential properties to lease or purchase for asylum seeker accommodation. These submissions were collected through an Expression of Interest (EOI) process launched by the Department of Integration in late April.

The Department is now evaluating these submissions against essential criteria to ensure they meet national standards and mandatory requirements. Those that pass this initial review will undergo a more detailed analysis, including technical due diligence, property value assessment, and planning compliance.

Only properties that successfully navigate these stages will be considered for purchase or lease. If a property progresses to potential use, the Department’s Community Engagement Team will notify local public representatives and relevant agencies.

Additionally, the Department is working on establishing new “reception centres” in response to the ongoing crisis in asylum seeker accommodation. While Integration Minister Roderic O’Gorman confirmed that work on these centres would begin soon, he did not commit to their completion before the next general election, which must be held by March.
