Grocery Price Inflation Rises for Second Month to 2.8%, Ending 15-Month Decline, Kantar Reports

Dublin: Grocery price inflation has risen for the second straight month, reaching 2.8% in the 12 weeks leading up to August 4th, up from 2.6% in the previous period, according to Kantar. This marks a reversal after 15 months of declining inflation. The “little and often” shopping trend continued, with store visits increasing by 4.7%, though items per trip fell by 2.4%. Shoppers focused on savings, with spending on promotions rising nearly 11% year-on-year, and own-label product sales grew by 4% (€59.2m). Tesco led the market with a 23.3% share, slightly ahead of Dunnes at 23.2%, while SuperValu’s share decreased to 20.2%. Aldi’s share slipped to 12%, and Lidl held steady at 13.8%.
