Kerry: Heavy rainfall caused widespread flooding in parts of Cork and Kerry, leading to significant traffic disruptions and multiple road closures across both counties. Local authorities have diverted vehicles and deployed emergency crews to affected areas to manage the situation.
Met Éireann had issued yellow weather warnings for both Cork and Kerry from midnight until 2 p.m. yesterday, followed by similar alerts for Carlow, Kilkenny, Tipperary, Waterford, Wexford, and Wicklow, which remained in effect until 5 p.m.
Several roads in Cork were rendered impassable due to flooding, particularly after a river near Mogeely village overflowed its banks. The Mogeely–Killeagh road has been closed, with traffic diverted south of the village via the L380544 towards Castlemartyr.
Other affected routes include:
- Park Road, Mallow (N72-2) – closed due to flooding.
- R588 – closed south of Enniskean village.
- Local road L2014 – closed to traffic.
- Castlemartyr village – severe flooding reported.
- L561934 (Aghacross to Marshallstown, Fermoy Municipal District) – closed.
- Clyde Bridge, Mallow – road impassable due to rising water levels.
- Area around Permanent TSB, Mallow – localised flooding reported.
Flooding was also reported on the road leading to the Áras na Loch housing estate in Dunmanway, where council crews remain stationed to monitor conditions. The road beyond Ballinaltig Cemetery has also been blocked.
In Kerry, the R551 in Blackpool, near Causeway, was closed after flooding submerged parts of the road, Kerry County Council confirmed.
