Heavy traffic around Wicklow Mountains, Gardaí to take strict action

Huge amount of traffic was recorded surrounding the Wicklow Mountains. People have been travelling to this place either to enjoy the snow or to enjoy the snow.

Due to the heavy traffic the Gardaí have set up checkpoints around Wicklow Mountains.

The Gardaí have warned that there are problems for emergency vehicles due to the illegality parked cars around the mountains.

Two tow trucks have been deployed on Sunday to assist with illegal parking. Many of those in the area are understood to be breaching the 5km travel limit.

“Checkpoints are in place at various areas on approaches and in the uplands themselves. Emergency vehicles would not have been able to access several areas yesterday due to obstruction caused by illegally parked cars.” Garda Siochana Wicklow wrote on Facebook.

Several cars were towed and two tow trucks have been deployed yesterday to assist.

Although a number of fixed charge notices have been issued to motorists for parking offences, ‘only in very few cases where cars are illegally causing an obstruction are they towed away’, a spokesperson from the Garda Press Office said.

As part of the Garda’s Operation Fanacht, the checkpoints are being placed. Last week, An Garda Siochana announced a range of new measures to support the Government’s new restrictions.

An additional static checkpoints on national routes under the ongoing Operation Fanacht, starting from 7am on Thursday in order to enforce the 5km travel limit as a part of the plan.
