Higher Fines for Airlines and Ferry Operators Allowing Entry Into Ireland Without Proper Documentation

Dublin: Starting Monday, airlines and ferry operators will face higher fines of up to €5,000 for allowing passengers to enter Ireland without proper documentation, an increase from the previous €3,000 maximum.

Minister for Justice Helen McEntee announced the change, aligning Ireland with EU counterparts and reinforcing efforts to maintain a “fair but firm immigration system.” The new measures also target individuals who destroy their documents mid-flight to claim asylum. McEntee emphasised the importance of carriers in upholding border security and noted that while training is provided to support these obligations, stricter penalties will now be enforced for non-compliance.
