housing and energy crisis; Experts suggest abandoning the construction of semi-detached houses

Dublin: In the context of Ireland’s housing crisis, experts advise that semi-detached house construction be abandoned. The country is dealing with two crises: housing and climate change. At this point, experts advise limiting the construction of detached and semi-detached properties.

The CSO reports that 7,654 new houses were built in the second quarter of 2022. Most of them were semi-detached houses, mostly executive homes with five and six bedrooms. Experts point out that they do not understand why they are being made. Each household has only one or two children. The idea of a four-room semi-detached room from the 1970s is still in the minds of many. They point out that there is no need for it.

Terrace houses and apartments are better in cities and other places considering the use of public amenities, public services, and public transport.

Beautiful old Victorian and Georgian terrace houses can be found all over Dublin. They point out that building modern duplex houses is also a very good idea.

Detached houses require more energy to heat, and the construction industry will have to adapt to the needs of a changing society, says Pat Barry, chief executive of the Irish Green Building Council.
