HSE to open new walk-in COVID-19 test centres next week

DUBLIN: HSE plans to open more walk-in test centers for COVID-19 at seven different locations next week.

The walk-in centers are open to anyone 16 and older who is asymptomatic and lives near a test centre. The HSE also said that only those who have not tested positive for COVID-19 in the previous six months should attend.

The new test centres are located in:

● Youghal GAA Club, Magners Hill, Youghal

● Midleton GAA Club, Clonmult Memorial Park, Midleton

● Newbridge Town Hall, Main Street, Newbridge

● Scoil Bhride Primary School, Killane, Edenderry

● Stephenites Ground, Lord Edward Street, Carrowcushlaun West, Ballina

● Ballymun Sports and Fitness Centre, Gateway Crescent, Ballymun

● Technological University Dublin, Blanchardstown Campus, Blanchardstown Road North

The Midleton and Edenderry centres opened yesterday and will remain open until the 3rd and 4th of May, respectively.

The Blanchardstown test centre will be open from today (May 1) to Friday, May 7. The Newbridge Centre will open on May 3rd.

The Youghal centre will open from the 3rd to the 5th of May, the Ballymun centre from the 4th to the 7th of May, and the Ballina centre from the 5th to the 7th of May.

The Edenderry centre is open from 10 am to 5 pm, while the Blanchardstown and Ballymun centres in Dublin are open from 10 am to 6 pm. Centres in Youghal, Midleton, Newbridge and Ballina are opening from 11am to 7pm.

Those who want to be tested at one of the walk-in centers do not need to make an appointment. But they must carry a photo ID and provide a phone number so that they can be contacted with the result.

HSE said other such testing centers that have been open for the past few weeks have been successful. Walk-in centres remain open in Donegal, Roscommon, Tipperary, Kerry, Cork, Waterford, Westmeath, and Offaly. More than 50,000 people were tested at existing walk-in centres.

“As of this morning, Friday 30 April, more than 50,000 people have come forward for Covid-19 testing in one of our walk-in sites and 1,628 (3.4%) COVID-19 positive cases have been detected,” National Lead for Testing and Tracing Niamh O’Beirne said.
