Hyundai IONIQ 6 Clinches 2024 Irish Car of the Year

Dublin’s Conrad Hotel hosted an award ceremony where the Hyundai IONIQ 6 was declared the 2024 Irish Car of the Year in association with Continental Tyres. The accolade, bestowed by the Motoring Media Association of Ireland (MMAI), marks the fourth consecutive year an electric vehicle has claimed the prestigious title. MMAI, comprising 35 seasoned motoring journalists, evaluates each new car model launched in Ireland annually to determine the winners.

Joe Rayfus, Chairman of MMAI, congratulated Hyundai Ireland on the IONIQ 6’s victory, emphasising its significance as evidence that the era of electric motoring has firmly arrived. Tom Dennigan of awards sponsor Continental Tyres praised the IONIQ 6’s stylish design, predicting that the Irish Car of the Year title would significantly elevate the electric vehicle’s profile among Irish motorists.

The recently revealed Irish Car of the Year category winners for 2024 showcase a range of exceptional vehicles:

1. Irish Small / Compact Car of the Year: MG4 EV
2. Irish Small/Compact SUV of the Year: BYD Atto 3
3. Irish Medium SUV of the Year: Renault Austral
4. Irish Medium/Large Car of the Year: Hyundai IONIQ 6
5. Irish Large SUV/MPV of the Year: Nissan X-TRAIL
6. Irish Luxury Car of the Year: BMW i7 or 7 Series
7. Irish Performance Car of the Year: BMW M2

In the realm of commercial vehicles:

Irish Commercial SUV of the Year: Ford Ranger Raptor
Irish Van of the Year 2024 (Overall): Mercedes-Benz Citan

The awards, presented as part of the Irish Van of the Year awards programme for 2024, highlight the diversity and excellence within the automotive industry, recognising outstanding vehicles in various categories.
