IBM announced the creation of 800 new high-tech jobs in Ireland. These positions, spanning R&D, digital sales, and consulting, will be based in Dublin, Cork, and at IBM subsidiary Red Hat in Waterford. Supported by the Irish Government through IDA Ireland, this three-year investment aims to enhance IBM’s operations and capabilities in the region.
Ireland hosts the EU’s sole IBM research facility, focusing on bolstering the area’s technology talent. IBM’s Irish operations support clients in sectors like financial services and healthcare, helping streamline processes and enhance competitiveness through technology.
Taoiseach Simon Harris welcomed IBM’s strategic commitment to Ireland, highlighting the economic benefits and the enhancement of specialist skills. Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Peter Burke called the announcement a “vote of confidence” in Ireland’s advanced digital economy, noting the government’s support for AI and digital transformation initiatives.
IDA Ireland CEO Michael Lohan emphasised the positive impact on Dublin, Cork, and Waterford, particularly in cloud, AI, quantum computing, and cybersecurity.
IBM’s recent strategic moves include acquiring two enterprise companies in a multibillion-dollar deal and a continued evolution from a hardware company to an AI and hybrid cloud organisation, as highlighted by IBM Ireland’s country general manager, Deborah Threadgold.
