Indian athletes concluded their Asian Para Games 2023 campaign in Hangzhou, People’s Republic of China, with an impressive tally of 111 medals, consisting of 29 gold, 31 silver, and 51 bronze. This remarkable achievement marks India’s most successful performance at the continental event, surpassing the previous record of 72 medals, which included 15 gold, from the 2018 Asian Para Games.
The Indian contingent for the 2023 Asian Para Games was the largest to date, comprising 303 athletes, consisting of 191 men and 112 women. In contrast, at the 2018 Asian Para Games, India had sent 190 athletes to represent the nation.
In terms of the overall standings, India secured the fifth position at the Asian Para Games 2023, with hosts China claiming the top spot. China’s remarkable performance resulted in 521 medals, which included an astonishing 214 gold medals. India’s presence and achievements at the event underscore the country’s commitment to promoting parasports and recognising the talent of athletes with disabilities.
