DUBLIN: Another Indian peace commissioner has been appointed in Ireland. Jinish Rajan from Kerala, who lives in Hollystown, Dublin, is the new Peace Commissioner. James Browne, Minister of State at the Department of Justice and Equality, handed over the order. Jinish’s service will be available in Dublin, Wicklow, Kildare and Meath.
The Peace Commissioner is an honorary appointment. The main responsibilities of the Peace Commissioner are to attest documents required for various services in Ireland, to certify certificates, and to sign orders.
Although peace commissioners have the power to issue summonses and warrants, these powers are rarely used. In most cases, applications for search warrants are filed in the local district court. However, in cases of emergency, gardai may approach the Peace Commissioner for search warrants.

Jinish started working as a nurse at St James’ Hospital in 2011, and is now in charge of the hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program. Jinish, who holds two master’s degrees from Trinity College and the Irish Management Institute, is currently working on the publication of his latest dissertation.
