Intel with an unpaid leave offer to cut costs

DUBLIN: To cut costs, IT multinational Intel has offered employees unpaid leave. Intel, one of Ireland’s biggest employers, has come up with this offer to workers to cut costs. The offer has not yet been officially communicated to the government or the Minister for Enterprise.

It is proposed to take leave without pay for up to three months. The offer was made to employees in the company’s manufacturing division, which employs the most people at its Kildare plant. Most of its 5,000 employees work in this segment. Through the offer, the company hopes to save $10 billion by 2025. However, the decision is not expected to affect sectors like chip making.

The company had previously stated that it would lay off thousands of employees worldwide, citing inflation and a slowdown in the personal computer market. Next year, the company plans to save three billion dollars (2.84 billion euros).

Intel contributes significantly to the country’s GDP and taxes.

The company said in a statement that the offer was made to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
