Gaza: Amid escalating tensions in the Israel-Hamas conflict, approximately 400,000 residents in northern Gaza have evacuated their homes in response to Israel’s warning. This exodus has been prompted by growing concerns over the acute shortage of fuel, which is affecting the operations of hospitals and other critical facilities.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, in response to the situation, emphasised the need for an immediate cessation of what he termed “Zionist aggression.” He issued a stern warning, cautioning that those responsible for the ongoing violence should remember that they are in the crosshairs. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian urged those who wish to prevent further escalation and a wider crisis to take decisive steps to halt the brutal attacks on Gaza’s civilian population.
On the international front, U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan expressed his apprehension regarding the potential for an expanded conflict in Israel and the direct involvement of Iran. Notably, Israel has deployed troops along its eastern border with Lebanon, particularly in response to border skirmishes with the Iran-backed Hezbollah group, leading to the sealing off of a four-kilometre radius in the region.
Tragically, the 10-day Israeli bombardment of Gaza has resulted in a significant loss of life, with 2,670 individuals killed, including 700 children. Gaza is grappling with a dire humanitarian situation, exacerbated by Israel’s cutoff of essential supplies such as water, food, and electricity. A critical water shortage in UN refugee centres is compounding the suffering, with more than 2,000 patients in Gaza’s largest hospital left without access to medicine and water. Medical professionals and staff are deeply concerned about the imminent depletion of fuel for the hospital generators. Additionally, Israel conducted three rocket attacks against those who were fleeing the region, intensifying the crisis.
Simultaneously, there is a watchful eye on Chinese actions related to Israel, as assessed by Indian foreign affairs sources.
In a humanitarian gesture, Egypt has announced the opening of the Rafah Gate to facilitate the evacuation of foreign nationals stranded in Palestine. The Israeli military remains on high alert, preparing for a potential ground war along the border as the death toll on both sides climbs to approximately 3,900. It is notable that Hamas is urging the people of Gaza to stay, raising concerns in the international community that they may be used as human shields in the ongoing conflict.
