Dublin: Ireland has expressed relief as Hurricane Gabrielle shifted course away from the region. The storm, which had intensified off the coast of Bermuda, reached Category 4 status on Monday with maximum sustained winds of 220 km/h, according to the US National Hurricane Centre.
By Tuesday and Wednesday, however, meteorologists confirmed that Gabrielle had weakened as it tracked northeast. Forecasts indicate the system will continue to lose strength as it crosses the Atlantic, transitioning into an extratropical storm by the weekend.
For Ireland, today (Thursday) will bring largely dry and sunny conditions, though skies will be cloudy at times. Light drizzle and isolated showers are possible in western and northwestern counties. Looking ahead, forecasters note uncertainty in the outlook for Friday and the weekend. While earlier predictions suggested occasional rain on Saturday and Sunday followed by drier weather, the latest updates indicate that these conditions may change.
