Tel Aviv – The ongoing conflict between Israeli forces and Hamas terrorists, sparked by a terrorist attack on Israel by Hamas, has now claimed the lives of more than 500 people. The violence continues in approximately 25 different locations, further deepening the crisis.
A Divided World Response
The international community stands divided in its response to the crisis. Iran and Qatar have vocally supported Hamas in this military operation, while Ireland, India, Western nations, and the European Union have taken a resolute stance against Hamas’ terrorist actions.
Turkey, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia, on the other hand, have chosen not to align with either side, maintaining a neutral position.
Iran Applauds Palestinian Fighters
Iran has gone so far as to express support for the Palestinian fighters carrying out brutal attacks against Israel. Qatar, meanwhile, holds Israel solely responsible for the ongoing conflict and has called upon both sides to refrain from violence.
International Calls for Peace
Ireland’s Prime Minister, Leo Varadkar, condemned Hamas’ terrorist attack and accused Israel of being subjected to aggression without provocation. Foreign Minister Micheál Martin strongly criticised Hamas terrorists and called for international intervention to seek a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
Sinn Fein, a prominent political party, emphasized the importance of upholding international law and demanded an immediate cessation of all acts of violence, stressing that the killing of civilians cannot be justified by any party.
Saudi Arabia has urged Hamas to withdraw from military operations against Israel, while Turkey and Kuwait have called on both sides to exercise restraint.
Global Solidarity with Israel
India expressed solidarity with Israel during this challenging period, offering prayers and emphasising that terrorism poses a significant threat to free societies. NATO affirmed Israel’s right to self-defence.
Several European countries, including France, Germany, the UK, Spain, Belgium, Greece, Italy, Poland, and the Czech Republic, have unequivocally condemned the attack. The US, through Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin, pledged unwavering support for Israel, while British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly reiterated Israel’s right to self-defence.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen characterised the attack as the most abhorrent form of terrorism, and Chancellor Olaf Scholz affirmed Germany’s solidarity with Israel. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy unequivocally labelled the attack on Israel as an act of terrorism, adding to the international chorus of condemnation.
