Dublin: AIB, Bank of Ireland and PTSB will jointly launch Zippay, a new mobile payment service, in early 2026. The service, developed with Italian fintech company Nexi, will be integrated directly into the banks’ existing apps, reaching a combined customer base of five million.
Positioned as a competitor to Revolut, Zippay will allow users to send, request, and split payments using mobile phone numbers, eliminating the need for IBANs or account details. Customers will be able to transfer up to €1,000 per day and request up to €500 per transaction.
Eligible customers will be automatically enrolled at launch. The service will carry the same security and protections as existing banking apps, avoiding the need for a separate wallet or top-ups.
Nexi, which has a track record in Irish financial services, said Zippay’s API-based design will allow other financial institutions to join in the future. A dedicated website and bank-specific information pages have already been launched to provide further details.
