Irish Supermarkets Cut Own-Brand Butter Prices by Up to 15%

Dublin: Several major Irish supermarket chains have reduced the price of their own-brand butter by up to 15%, offering some relief to households facing higher food costs. SuperValu, Centra and Lidl have all announced price cuts, with savings of up to 60 cent per pack.

Musgrave, the parent company of SuperValu and Centra, confirmed that price reductions across its full range of own-brand butter products came into effect nationwide this week. The retailer said Irish Creamery butter prices have been reduced by up to 15%, with salted and unsalted varieties in both 227g and 454g sizes included.

Under the changes, SuperValu and Centra 454g butter packs have fallen from €3.99 to €3.39, while 227g packs are now priced at €2.09, down from €2.39.

Lidl has introduced similar reductions, cutting the price of its 454g Dairy Manor butter from €3.99 to €3.39 and its 227g pack from €2.39 to €2.09.

The price cuts come amid continued pressure on household budgets. Grocery inflation currently stands at around 6%, according to market research firm Worldpanel, with the cost of a Christmas dinner for a family of four estimated to have risen by €32.28 compared with last year.

Central Statistics Office figures show that the average price of a 454g pack of butter increased by 55 cent in the 12 months to November 2025, bringing the average cost to €4.88.

Musgrave said the reductions are part of efforts to ease cost-of-living pressures on consumers and reiterated its commitment to investing in own-brand ranges to provide high-quality products at affordable prices.
