J&J to start delivering its single-shot vaccine to Europe on 19 April; Ireland is due to receive 600,000 doses

DUBLIN: Johnson & Johnson has announced that it will start delivering its single-shot vaccine to Europe on April 19. This will help speed up the vaccination drive in Europe.

From April to June, Ireland will receive 600,000 doses of the single-shot vaccine.

The J&J vacccine was approved by European Union regulators in mid-March. Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, and AstraZeneca vaccines had previously been approved by EU regulators.

The EU has placed a firm order for 200 million J&J doses, with an option for an additional 200 million.

The Johnson & Johnson jab is the first vaccine that needs just one injection, making it easy to store.

Clinical trials involving volunteers in the United States, South Africa and South American countries found that J&J Jab was 67% effective.
