June Car Sales Soar 60% as EVs Lead Market Surge

Dublin: Car sales in Ireland jumped nearly 60% in June, with electric vehicles (EVs) making up over half of registrations. Tesla led the EV segment with 524 units sold.

Year-to-date, overall new car sales rose 3.4% to 81,686, with petrol (27.25%) remaining the most popular engine type, followed by hybrids (22.8%), diesel (17.3%), and EVs (16.6%).

Toyota leads in brand sales, while the Hyundai Tucson is the best-selling model so far in 2025.

The hire-drive sector accounted for 11.4% of new registrations but showed limited EV uptake. Commercial vehicle sales posted mixed results—van sales rose 54% in June, but year-to-date HGV sales dropped 16%, reflecting broader economic caution.
