Kerala Assembly Election 2021: heavy polling in the first hours

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala is set to elect its future rulers for its 140 assembly constituencies after weeks of campaign that included marathon rallies and massive roadshows. Heavy polling recorded in the first hours of assembly elections in the state. The turnout in the state was 31.2% in the first three and a half hours. Palakkad and Kollam districts recorded the highest turnout so far.

Polling in the state started at 7 am and will end at 7 pm. Many prominent leaders cast their votes early in the morning. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his wife Kamala cast their votes at Pinarayi RC Amala UP School. Ministers E Chandrasekharan, EP Jayarajan, C Raveendranath, Kadakampally Surendran, and J Mersykutty Amma also voted.

Voting ends at 6 pm in 9 Maoist-threatened constituencies. Everywhere, the last one hour is reserved for COVID-19 patients and those under quarantine to vote. For those who come to vote during the day have a high body temperature, they will be checked twice, issued a voting token, and allowed to vote in the last hour.

CM hopes for a historic victory for LDF

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the people of Kerala will give a historic victory to the LDF (Communist Party of India-Marxist [CPI-M]). He was responding to media after voting at Pinarayi RC Amala Basic UP School with his wife Kamala.

UDF with full confidence

Meanwhile, UDF candidate K Muraleedharan said that the UDF (Congress-headed United Democratic Front) would do well in the state Assembly elections. Muraleedharan also alleged that the CPM and the BJP had formed an alliance in the Nemom constituency (part of Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency).

KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran said that Pinarayi Vijayan’s expression of humility on polling day was artificial. He added that the UDF would hit a century in the state Assembly elections and that the UDF wave is prevailing in the state. Ramachandran also alleged that there was an understanding between the BJP and the CPM in the Manjeswaram constituency.
