Dublin: Landlords have come up with a new tactic to get rid of tenants in the name of sales. RTB figures reveal that 1,100 landlords served notices to vacate tenants for the same reason in the first quarter of this year alone.

At the same time, Threshold chief executive John Mark McCafferty warns that landlords are stepping up measures to increase homelessness in the country. He stated that if nothing is done, the situation will worsen.
Landlords register properties for sale under a law that came into effect in June 2019. RTB reveals that the number of such registrants has increased significantly.
Since the second quarter of last year, the number of rental terminations has increased. 367 house owners served notices in the second half of 2019. 698 homeowners were served with notices in the first quarter of this year. It is increasing.
According to prominent Dublin landlord Joe Doyle and others, properties are being sold due to rising prices and low rents. The mortgage interest rate has risen. Income does not increase with expenditure.
As there is a restriction called the rent pressure zone, it is not possible to increase the rent. They point to other reasons like this to boost sales. The Irish Property Association has also criticised the complicated tenancy rules. According to the association, it is extremely difficult for the house owners to manage it.
Tenants without unity..
The fact that there are no public mechanisms to advocate for tenants favours landlords. Everyone has to come forward separately for a stay or complaint; landlords are also exploiting such situations.
In many parts of Ireland, landlords and agencies are attempting to evict tenants under threat and for no obvious reason. Tenants are in dire straits, with signs that they will continue to raise rents and force evictions if they do not band together during the recession and inflationary crisis.
