Dublin: Leo Varadkar has taken over as the Prime Minister of Ireland.
Regarding the housing crisis, Leo Varadkar stated in his inaugural speech that he would do “whatever is necessary to solve this social crisis,” that he would apply “the same spirit of determination, action, and immediacy” as he did during COVID, and that he would consider all options. Leo clarified.
The next challenge, he says, is to keep inflation and rising living costs under control.
He hoped to make Ireland the best country in Europe. Leo also said that the Prime Minister’s Department will create a special unit to make this possible.
Yesterday morning, Micheal Martin submitted his resignation from the post of Prime Minister to the President as per a previous agreement.
Following this, Leo Varadkar was elected Prime Minister of Ireland earlier this afternoon in Parliament, and power was transferred. His nomination was supported by 87 TDs and opposed by 62. After arriving at the Áras an Uachtaráin, President Michael D. Higgins handed over the Prime Minister’s “Seal of Office,” and Leo Varadkar, who is also of Indian origin, was appointed as the Prime Minister.

Simon Coveney: Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment
Paschal Donohoe: Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform Department
Michael McGrath: Finance.
Eamon Ryan: Departments for Environment, Climate, Communications and Transport.
Norma Foley: Education,
Catherine Martin: Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaelic, Sport, Media
Darragh O’Brien: Housing, Local Government, Heritage
Heather Humphreys: Social Protection, Rural and Community Development
Stephen Donnelly: Health,
Charlie McCullough : Agriculture, Food, Marine
Roderick O’Gorman will continue in the Department of Children, Equality, Integration and Youth.
Simon Harris: Departments for Justice, Education, Research, Innovation and Science.
(Justice Minister Helen McEntee is currently on maternity leave but will return as Justice Minister later).
Hildegarde Naughton was appointed as the new Chief Whip.
Rossa Fanning appointed Attorney General.
Jack Chambers will become super junior minister in the Department of Transport and Senator Pippa Hackett will become Minister of State for Land Use and Biodiversity in the Department of Agriculture.
The list of other ministers of state will be published later.
