Littlewoods Ireland & Re-Fashion to promote ‘reuse, remake and repair’ of old and unwanted clothing

People usually throw away their old garments, but the majority of them do so because they are unaware of recycling and its importance. If we counted the number of such discarded clothes worldwide each year, it would be a startling figure. However, according to Ireland’s National Waste Policy, over 63,000 tonnes of clothes are thrown away each year in the country, with only 1% of it being recycled.

With the aim of eliminating clothing waste and increasing the amount of clothing recycled, Littlewoods Ireland, an online shopping website for fashion and homeware products, has launched an initiative to give your ‘useless’ clothes a new life.

Littlewoods Ireland has partnered with Re-Fashion, a pre-loved clothing resale website, to make fashion more sustainable and to reduce the impact of fashion on the environment. It is a secondhand fashion website that resells unwanted clothes after repairing them to raise funds for The Care Trust, which supports three renowned Irish charities: CRC, Rehab Group, and Mater University Hospital.

Re-Fashion believes that the future of fashion is circular, in which fashion products, including clothes, are designed, manufactured, and distributed with the intention of being used and circulated responsibly and effectively in society. This is why they support sustainable fashion projects and encourage their customers to reuse, remake, and repair their clothes.

Rossa Butler, Managing Director, Littlewoods Ireland, commented: “We recognise the key role that we can take in helping raise awareness towards clothing recycling. It’s important to provide our customers with a sustainable solution while supporting an Irish charity. This partnership with Re-Fashion and The Care Trust will achieve just that.”

How to donate your unwanted clothes?

Once you’ve decided to donate your old or unwanted clothes, sort them out of your wardrobe and place them in the donation bag, which you can order from Littlewoods Ireland’s website. The next step is to drop off your donation bag at your nearest Parcel Connect station (free of charge).

This initiative benefits not just sustainability projects, but also charitable programs. All funds raised from donations will be used to care for children and adults with disabilities or serious diseases as well as for sustainability projects.
