Loopholes must be closed…TD calls for action against misinterpretation of law

Dublin: Landlords evict tenants despite an eviction ban. Landlords exploit legal loopholes to evict tenants. Section 35A of the Residential Tenancy Act, which allows tenants to be evicted for sale, provides the legal loophole. In October, the government ordered a ban on evictions until April 1 to help tenants amid the cost-of-living crisis.

In Parliament, two TDs, including Labour’s Ivana Bacik, listed the flaws in the law. Ivana Bacik, TD, stated that 35 families in Kilmainham are facing eviction. The tenants of 20 Rathmines apartments are being evicted without a court order. The landlords are claiming that they intend to sell the property. The prime minister should intervene in the problem. In such cases, she believes renters should be given more protection.

People Before Profit TD Richard Boyd Barrett said the government had failed to tackle the homelessness crisis. The tenants, according to TD, have done nothing wrong. There are families facing eviction in Dale’s gallery. TD said that they have come here out of fear of being found out.

The housing crisis, according to Prime Minister Micheal Martin, is the most pressing issue confronting the country. Martin said that he will see if loopholes in the law can be fixed.
