Majority of COVID deaths in Ireland are in elderly; all those who died today are over 65 years of age

DUBLIN: The new figures released by the government indicate that COVID-linked deaths in Ireland are concentrated among the elderly.

While 60 more deaths were reported today in connection with COVID-19, not a single one under the age of 65 was reported.

Of those reported today, 59 deaths occurred in January.

With this, a total of 2,595 COVID-19 related deaths were confirmed in Ireland.

The average age of those died was 85 years, while the age range was between 65 and 100 years.

A total of 3,231 COVID-19 cases were confirmed today in Ireland. This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases in Ireland to 169,780.

Of the cases notified today, 1,465 are men and 1,712 are women. Of these, 54% are under 45 years of age. The median age is 42.
