Majority of the population carries Gun in Ireland

Dublin: The report says that a good majority of people in Ireland carries a gun with them. Out of a total population of 45 lakhs, 200,000 have licensed for handling a gun.

The Garda Commissioner has revealed the number of licensed guns only, but the report says that there could be people who keep gun illegally.

The numbers till July 31, 2016 shows that there are 189,611 licensed guns and over 1500 applicants for license renewal and clearing other formalities. In Ireland license for guns are issued for sports and hunting purposes. 

Anyone over the age of 16 can apply for a license. The Justice Minister said that gun licenses are issued under strict conditions. However, gun violence and crime are on the rise.

The license will be issued only if the applicant is satisfied with the usability and medical report.
