Maldives Fire: 9 Indians Among 10 Killed in Male Lodge Blaze

A fire rushed through cramped lodgings of foreign workers in the Maldives’ capital Male, on Thursday, killing at least ten people and injuring numerous more, according to the fire department.
The archipelago’s capital, widely recognised as an upscale vacation resort, is one of the world’s most highly populated cities.

Officials said 10 remains were discovered from the top story of a structure destroyed by the fire, which occurred in a vehicle repair garage on the bottom floor.

“We found ten dead,” a fire officer stated, adding that it took them roughly four hours to extinguish the fire.

According to a security officer, the dead included nine Indians and a Bangladeshi national.

The Indian High Commission in the Maldives expressed its condolences for the loss of life in the unfortunate tragedy. “We are deeply saddened by the tragic fire incident in Male which has caused loss of lives, including reportedly of Indian nationals. “We are in close contact with the Maldivian authorities,” the high commission tweeted.
