Measures taken to avoid crowding at Penneys stores by making appointments

DUBLIN: Penneys has announced that it will offer shopping by appointment in all of its Irish stores to avoid congestion. Penneys stated that the move is only temporary in preparation for the reopening of stores in Ireland on May 17. In view of this, the company is setting up a system for people to make appointments in advance.

The regulation comes after noticing that hundreds of customers queued outside various stores in Northern Ireland. The Irish government had put forward such a proposal.

PSNI officers struggled to control the crowd at the Primark stores in Northern Ireland. People in the queue were moved to another street with more space for distancing.

“We welcome the government’s decision to introduce shopping by appointment as a first step having already launched this service successfully in some of our European markets,” Penneys said.

Penneys officials said they would announce the timing and full details next week.
