Met Eirann’s warning ahead of Ellen Storm. Orange alert has been announced in seven counties

Dublin: Extreme levels of flood danger and storms were announced in many parts of Ireland. Following this, an orange alert was issued to seven counties from 9pm last night to Thursday afternoon. This warning message by Met Eireann’s is in advance of storm Ellen.

Storm Ellen, which can reach speeds of 110 to 130 kilometers per hour, is expected to cause severe damage in Ireland tonight and Thursday, the Met Eireann said.

There are chances for coastal areas to be flooded due to the combination of storms, tides and high winds.

Orange alert has given to counties such as Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Waterford.

These places are prone to heavy rains and floods along with strong winds. People in these areas are requested to stay away from coastal areas.

Drivers and people who are walking along the road need to be extra careful as there are possibilities for trees to be fallen onto the road in the wind. Met Eireann also says people should be conscious of local conditions.

The yellow alert, previously warned by Met Eireann to all 26 counties ahead of the widespread rain, will be applicable throughout Thursday.

The UK Met Office issued similar warnings to all six counties in Northern Ireland. The warning went into effect at 8pm last night.
