Met Éireann issued status yellow low temperature and ice warning for 10 counties

DUBLIN: Met Éireann had issued a status yellow low temperature and ice warning for 10 counties yesterday. The warning, which took effect from 6pm yesterday, will last until 10am today (Wednesday).

The warning includes all of Connacht, Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Longford and Clare. The Met Éireann also issued a similar warning yesterday for the counties Antrim, Armagh, Down and Tyrone.

Met Éireann had predicted that the temperature would drop to -2 to -5 degrees overnight. Severe frost and icy patches on untreated surfaces are also expected.

Met Éireann warned earlier about temperatures “well below normal” as a result of ‘Sudden Stratospheric Warming’ (SSW). The forecasters say this is similar to what caused the ‘Beast from the East’ storm in 2018.

However, Met Éireann said it was uncertain how this SSW would affect the weather in the coming weeks.
