DUBLIN: Status Yellow alert was issued in 11 counties following warnings from meteorologists of possible storms in Ireland. Met Éireann forecast winds of up to 100 km/h. From tonight, for nine counties and the UK Met Office has issued an alert for two counties for Wednesday.
Warning has been given in Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford counties from 9pm to 9am on Wednesday. In these 12 hours, meteorologists predict that south winds will reach speeds of 50 to 65 km/h and that they may reach speeds of up to 100 km/h.
Coastal areas are prone to flooding and high tides today and Friday. Cork County Council has warned people against the high-tides. The council said the tide was expected to rise to 3.6 meters in Bantry on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
The UK Met Office has also issued a Status Yellow wind warning for counties Antrim and Down. It is effective from Tuesday midnight until 3 pm on Wednesday.
The Cork County Council has reminded those in coastal areas, as well as those in Bantry, Dunmanway and in particular along the Bailick Road and Dwyers Road, to take absolute precautions.
