Calabria: A Pakistani women’s hockey player was among those killed in a tragic migrant boat accident in Italy last weekend. 27-year-old Shahida Raza died in a boat accident on the Italian coast. Her body was identified last day.
Raza played hockey for Pakistan at the international level and football for Balochistan United at the domestic level.
Raza was struggling financially and mentally after her divorce.
She died trying to immigrate to Europe by taking an illegal boat trip from Turkey to Italy in an attempt to improve her future prospects. According to authorities, there were approximately 40 Pakistanis on the boat.
Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Vice President Shehla Raza and PHF Women’s Secretary Tanzeela Amir Cheema paid tribute to Raza.
