Migrants’ Right Center alleges Employers unconscionable cutting of wages of migrant workers, including Indians

Dublin: According to the reports of the Ireland Migrant Rights Center (MRCA), the low waged migrant workers are facing huge exploitation at their job sectors.

The report says that employees who are working in certain sectors like restaurants, security, home care, domestic work, etc. are mostly exploited.

Most of the migrant workers are not getting the minimum daily wage, which means that they are getting less than 9.80 euro per hour and weekly they are getting below 300 euro.

These workers don’t even receive proper security measures at their work site or job guarantee.

The work place rights coordinator, Grain O Tool points out that some unscrupulous employers are steeling the wages of poor workers.

The report says that some employers view economic migrants as refugees. The workers face the same neglect and indifference as those who receive refugee status.

Another notable finding of the report is that none amongst the workers are aware of their labor rights or their employers’ breach of contract.

Grain O Tool said that the employers should stop exploiting the migrant labors without the fear of punishment and the workers should be ensured with proper justice at their work places.

The documents over the past 10 years were examined and the study also found that 15% of Ireland’s total population are migrant workers.

The survey was conducted amongst the workers of 24-44 age group and there were from five different countries like Pakistan, Philippians, Bangladesh, China and India.

The survey report points out that migrant workers are forced to work longer hours without pay, with about half having no contract or not even a pay slip.

For the last one year 82% among these workers are not having any increment in their wages and they are not getting any hike in their pay for working on Sundays. Center officials called on the government to pay immediate attention to the problems of migrant workers.
