Mullingar Hospital Fatality Linked to Measles Contact: Hospital staff and fellow passengers to undergo testing

Dublin: Following the tragic death of a man in Mullingar Hospital, it has been revealed that he had contracted measles eight days prior to his passing. The individual exhibited symptoms of measles subsequent to returning from a trip to the UK and was diagnosed upon hospital admission.

In response, the health department has initiated an extensive tracing effort to identify and monitor individuals who may have come into contact with the deceased, including passengers of the bus he utilised during his travels.

The 48-year-old from Westmeath succumbed to measles yesterday, prompting the Department of Health to announce potential testing for hospital staff. As they are deemed contacts, hospital personnel are considered to be at risk of exposure to the virus.
