NCT delays: Delays for NCT in Ireland leave vehicle owners frustrated

Dublin: Vehicle owners in Ireland are frustrated due to NCT delays. The test should be completed within 12 days, according to the agreement between NCT and service providers. The problem is that people must wait much longer than that.

Although the RSA claims that there is a 29-day delay, many vehicle owners have been waiting for months. A woman from Thala, who is a vehicle owner and could not get the test done even after eight months, came forward with a complaint.

The Minister of State for Transport, Jack Chambers, said the delay in contravention of the agreement was cause for concern. 25,000 vehicles per week became 30,000 by the end of the year. According to the minister, it will rise to 35,000 by the end of this month.

The Minister stated that the Road Safety Authority has proposed that the 12-day target be met by the end of May this year, or fines will be imposed. Sinn Féin TD Darren O’Rourke said that NCT delays are not just a problem in Dublin.

Aplos is the company with which NCT has contracted until 2030. According to Aplos, the reason for the delay is overcrowding. The company says it will fix the problem in the coming weeks. The main reason for the delay is also a lack of good mechanics.

The issue of car lifts should also be addressed. The car lifts were scheduled to be replaced in 2020, but this has not occurred. As a result, SIPTU emphasises that the tests must be conducted in two sections.
