“Negotiations Commence to Bolster Ireland-India Trade Relations”

Dublin: A delegation from Ireland, led by Minister of State for Enterprise, Trade, and Employment, Simon Coveney, who also serves as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, commenced their visit to India, starting in Bengaluru on Monday. The primary aim of this visit is to fortify the economic bonds between Ireland and India, bolster trade collaboration, and enhance educational connections.

This initiative is anticipated to pave the way for Irish businesses to venture into the Indian market by forging links with the local business community, securing funding, and engaging with startups in India. Simultaneously, it offers Indian companies an avenue to access the European market through Ireland.

Jenny Melia, the Executive Director of Enterprise Ireland, highlighted that this visit presents a valuable opportunity for the delegation to showcase their offerings to Irish enterprises and gain insights into the Indian market dynamics.

Moreover, the visit is set to serve as a platform for companies to trial emerging technologies. Through a sandbox model, events will be organised to engage Irish users and testers. Enterprise Ireland will facilitate face-to-face meetings with prospective partners and streamline business processes.

Melia underscored the agency’s commitment to ramping up support for Irish companies already operating in India. With digital technologies evolving rapidly, Ireland is poised to make significant strides in the Indian fintech sector. Additionally, notable advancements are expected in the aviation and medical technology industries.

The influx of Indian students pursuing education in Ireland has risen to 8,500 this academic year, indicating a strengthening educational tie between the two nations. Since 2006, Enterprise Ireland has been actively present in India, aiding Irish companies in navigating the Indian market landscape, fostering investment, and generating employment opportunities in India.
