New York: 1 killed and 9 injured at a hip-hop concert

On Monday, police were attempting to identify what triggered a stampede at a hip-hop concert in New York State that killed one woman and wounded nine others, citing the size of the crowd and allegations of gunfire being heard at the venue as two lines of inquiry.

The crowd began to surge as concertgoers were exiting the Main Street Armory in Rochester, which featured rappers GloRilla and Finesse2tymes, at just after 11 p.m. on Monday, according to local police chief David Smith.

“There are some claims of bullets being fired, inciting fear in the crowd,” he added, adding that police have discovered no evidence to substantiate that theory.

Within the building, police discovered three severely injured girls, one of whom died later in the hospital. The other two were critically injured, while seven more were hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries. Smith added.

According to preliminary reports from the scene, the injuries were caused by people being trampled.

“There is no indication of gunshots being fired or of someone being shot or stabbed at the scene,” Smith stated. “We are getting several accounts of probable causes, including crowd size.”

The Main Street Armory, which seats 5,000 people, is a popular local performance venue.

“We are going to hold people accountable for what happened last night, period,” Rochester Mayor Malik Evans stated.

“I’m just now hearing about what occurred. I hope everyone is okay,” GlorRilla posted on Twitter.
