Dublin: The NMBI is implementing a new system to improve the humaneness and credibility of Ireland’s Fitness to Practise (FTP) process, which investigates and takes action on complaints against nurses and other healthcare workers. It is launching an emotional phone launch service for registrants, witnesses, and complainants.
The Director of FTP informed that this service is being introduced as part of the Compassion Project, which aims to ensure that fitness to practise procedures are more humane.
According to current findings, the majority of participants in fitness to practise investigations present themselves to the investigation committee with excessive fear and tension. There was no one to provide them with adequate guidance; another reason is that many of those who appear before the fitness to practise committee are overseas nurses. It was common for health workers to struggle without being able to speak up. In such a case, NMBI believes that the new system will be beneficial.
The first launch of the service will be held online on July 13, 2023, from 12 noon to 12.45 pm. On that day, there will be two presentations.
Marie Therese, Inquiries Legal Adviser at NMBI, will talk about the details of the project. The phone-based support provider services will then be explained by Hazel Grassi, Contracts and Accounts Manager at CIC. The director informed all those who are interested can participate in this programme.
