North India weather updates

Severe fog is expected to persist for the next two days across Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and neighbouring north Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, according to the India Meteorological Department.

The meteorological service said that severe fog will be expected in isolated pockets of these regions over the next three days.

During the next 2-3 days, the meteorological service predicts intense fog in isolated pockets across Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, north Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura.

Earlier on Saturday, during the current severe coldwave, the MeT department issued a red warning due to the bitter cold.

The MeT office stated that the twin whammy of falling air quality and the recent severe cold wave will further worsen people’s concerns, adding that Delhi’s air quality will be “extremely poor” for the next three to four days.

Temperatures in North India have fallen in recent days. On Saturday, the national capital’s lowest temperature plummeted to 1.5 degrees Celsius, making it colder than a lot of hill stations.

Aside from Delhi, the present coldwave has intensified in other regions of the nation, causing hazy conditions and reducing visibility.

On Saturday, most of the country had visibility of less than 200 meters.

The visibility fell to 25 metres in Jammu, Patiala, Haryana’s Ambala, and Rajasthan’s Churu, while it reached 50 metres in Lucknow, MP’s Satna, and Tripura’s Kailashahar.

In Punjab’s Bhatinda and Uttar Pradesh’s Agra, visibility was zero.
