Northern Ireland’s First Nationalist Economy Minister Commits to Leveraging Windsor Framework for All-Ireland Economic Opportunities

Conor Murphy, the north’s first nationalist economy minister, has pledged to leverage the Windsor Framework and fully utilise the all-Ireland economy. He intends to impose stricter conditions on overseas companies receiving public funding, focusing on disadvantaged areas, labour market re-entry, and decarbonisation commitments.

Murphy advocates for a new regional structure within Invest NI to support local SMEs and startups, departing from the previous 10X strategy. His economic vision emphasises ‘good jobs,’ regional balance, productivity improvement, and achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Expert advisors, including Dr. Lisa Wilson, Dr. Conor Patterson, Dr. David Jordan, and Professor David Rooney, have been appointed to guide policy in respective areas. The focus is on swift implementation to revitalise the economy, with collaboration between the executive, businesses, and stakeholders seen as pivotal for success.
