One in eight Covid-19 patients in Europe has long-Covid, study says

One in every eight persons in Europe infected with Covid-19 is at risk of long-term Covid, according to a Dutch study.

The researchers found that common symptoms of long-covid include frequent chest pain, breathing problems, pain when breathing, muscle pain, loss of taste and smell, sore throat, alternately feeling hot and cold, heavy arms and/or legs and general tiredness.

The study, published in The Lancet, suggests that if at least one of these symptoms persists, a person infected with Covid-19 should be suspected of having post-Covid-19 condition or long-Covid.

Researchers found that 21.4% of adults infected with Covid-19 developed symptoms three to five months later. 12.7 percent of those affected by long covid experienced symptoms. The study also says that due to widespread vaccination and Omicron variant, there has been a decrease in cases of long covid.
