Only 15,000 people in Ireland received first dose of COVID-19 vaccine

DUBLIN: Vaccination is progressing in Ireland while the COVID-19 continues to spread rapidly. So far, only 15,314 people have received the first dose of the vaccine, which began last week.

The figures on first dose of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine available in Ireland at the end of December were released by HSE CEO Paul Reid. Vaccination took place on St. Stephen’s Day and the day after.

He said that the priority in vaccination is given to the vulnerable and those at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19 in the country. The HSE chief released the figures following criticism from some that vaccination was slow.

Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 patients in hospitals in Ireland has crossed one thousand.

Paul Reid described the statistics of Ireland’s struggle against COVID-19 as a sad milestone.
