Outbreak of Covid-19: Air India to close five out of ten stations

New Delhi (India), Aug 12 (ANI): In view of the current coronavirus outbreak, national carrier Air India has decided to close five out of a total of 10 stations.

On Wednesday the airlines declared their closure of five stations in Vienna, Milan, among other European cities.


The carriers said there are no plans to take off flights under the Vande Bharat Mission from the cities where it is closing its stations.

Air India said in a statement today it will consult with local lawyers in advance of announcing the deadlines by which the stations will be closed.


“In view of COVID-19, Air India (AI) has decided to close down its stations in Vienna, Milan, Madrid, Copenhagen, & Stockholm. AI would immediately initiate action for closure in consultation with local lawyers & advise the timelines by which the stations will be closed,” the statement read.


India had recently launched flights to the UK, US, Germany, France and UAE under the Bubbles Agreement during the COVID-19 pandemic.


Currently, the national carrier has a huge debt of more than Rs 50,000 crores and the divestment process is underway.
