Pandemic payment in Ireland only until end of September

DUBLIN: Tánaiste Leo Varadkar hinted at a Fine Gael Parliamentary Party meeting yesterday evening that the Government plans to end the Pandemic Unemployment Payment in Ireland from October.

The PUP would be retained in July, August, and September, the Tánaiste said.

He urged people to use the coming months to get back to work, find new jobs, and help the economy revive.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin had earlier said that the Government was planning to introduce new financial assistance packages to support the aviation, hospitality, arts, and culture industries.

An official decision to renew the term is likely to be taken at next Tuesday’s cabinet meeting.

Earlier, Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald called on the government to extend pandemic payments until at least the beginning of winter.
