DUBLIN: The number of people entering and departing Ireland for other nations is returning to pre-crisis levels. The Central Statistics Office figures for June show that the passenger numbers in and out Ireland’s ports and airports has increased significantly.
160,000 passengers arrived in Ireland on foreign routes in June, an 87% increase over May. At the same time, 199,100 passengers left Ireland on overseas routes in June, slightly more than double the number in May.
According to the CSO, there were around three times as many passengers arriving in and departing from Ireland in June this year as compared to last year.
However, the figures show that, although international travel is returning to pre-pandemic levels, it is still far lower than previous levels.
Prior to the pandemic, in June 2019, 1,941,100 travellers landed in Ireland and 2,081,000 people departed.
Continental routes contributed the most to passenger traffic in June 2021, according to a CSO statistician. “Apart from Great Britain – which accounted for all cross-channel routes – the most important routing countries for overseas travel in June were Spain, Poland and the Netherlands,” Gregg Patrick said.
